Multi-Generational Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace

Different generations working alongside one another in the workplace can present challenges to both employees and supervisors. Exploring multi-generational work styles and perspectives can provide insights into ways that different age groups can collaborate with each other more efficiently and effectively. The purpose of this session is to highlight D&I best practices that can help business leaders leverage generational differences to promote collaboration and productivity within their organization. Our presenter - Angela Thompson, Regional Vice President for UPS - will additionally tie in her experiences at UPS to provide examples of these D&I best practices as well.

Inspiring a Continuous Learning Culture In An Instant Answer World

This talk examines the role of First Line Managers in cultivating a culture that inspires continuous learning goals.

Areas of focus include: Approaches for HR and Learning groups to motivate and equip these leaders to drive this business imperative; Perspectives on  balancing priorities between current skills and preparing for the future; Isolating how and when to get to depth in topics where the tendency is too much content and too short attention spans among learners.  It will close with a brief thought challenge on the evolution of learning delivery tools, roles of coaches, and use of gamification and recognition to achieve outcomes.

Trust – Let’s talk about Trust and how it’s critical to the success of every workplace.

Example - when calling Wayfair to discuss a purchase and having difficulty applying a promo code, the customer service rep who answered the phone not only applied the 10% off but did so without having to put me on hold and consult with her “manager.”  What message did that convey to me?  Wayfair trusts and empowers their people to make decisions.  By empowering and trusting their employees, they expedite transactions (productivity) and increase loyalty (customer satisfaction). Lesson learned and noted. At Mohawk, we work each day to empower our people and extend trust. Easier said than done with a dynamic group of leaders, each with different experiences, training and backgrounds. During our time together in Orlando, we’ll discuss the essence of trust and how to use it as a differentiator in your cultures and provide you with tools and conversation starters to get the ball rolling.

Authentic Leadership: Servant Leader First . . . Professional Second.

Based on my combined 35 years of leadership experience in the Marine Corps and in the business world, I’ve come to the inescapable conclusion that servant leadership is the heart of authentic leadership. We are all called to lead in our own lives, across the spectrum of our lives. We can either answer that call, or turn our back on it. When we choose to lead, we are filling a gap that no one else can fill. To lead authentically, we must first define ourselves as servant leaders, serving our teammates, our teams, and our organizations, as human beings and as professionals, in the direction of our shared mission. I will share my conclusions and place a personal challenge in front of those who attend.
