Have you ever wondered why you can’t seem to find the right applicant for your positions? Are you retaining the wrong employees or retraining employees that don’t fit your organizations’ future business model? Are your employees not producing as hoped after the hire? In today’s global marketplace businesses are struggling to find not only the right mix of talent and skill in applicants but in the employees, they have retained. This presentation’s objective is to uncover what is required to close the skills gap in the workplace.


Presenter Bio:

Dr. Juanita D. Catchings is a combat veteran of 24 years and military retiree of the United States Army she served a tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Her last military assignment was as the Regional Deputy Medical Training, Operations and Logistics Officer for 300,000 joint service members in 21 states and its territories east of the Mississippi. In this role, she provided strategic leadership by ensuring continuity of care was provided to men and women being deployed worldwide.

She is a thought-leader, innovator and public speaker at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), in the Pacific Islands of Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam and Saipan as an Organizational Learning and Development Specialist. In this role, she is the sole facilitator and representative building a training academy for Health Administration Services department and over 400 other employees; to monitor professional development and close the skills gap in the organization through reporting and analysis. Dr. Catchings’ joined VA over a year ago in search of and based in part on President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address in keeping his promise “To care for him who has borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan.” The Department of Veterans Affairs provides Benefits and Healthcare services to over 21 million veterans.

Dr. Catchings’ operates a veteran owned company J.C. Consulting an HR consulting firm. Her professional experience spans 27+ years as an executive HR Professional in the public and private sector. Prior to VA she served as the Associate Director of Human Resources within the University System of Maryland, State of Maryland. In this role, she was responsible for the strategic oversight and planning as well as the daily operations of the HR department and its functional areas of compensation, classification, employee and labor relations, talent management, professional development, compliance and payroll to over 1900 state employees.

Dr. Catchings’ has been teaching Business Management, Healthcare Administration, Human Resources Management and Human Resources Development courses for Webster University Graduate program for six (6) years. Dr. Catchings’ was awarded her Doctorate of Management and Organizational Leadership degree from the University of Phoenix.

Additionally, she is a Society for Human Resource Management - Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). As an HR professional, her expertise is within the functional areas of Organizational Development, Career Development, Talent Management, and Career Coaching. Dr. Catchings’ is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Association of Talent Development (ATD) and Rotary International.
