There has never been a more important time in the history of women in leadership than today. With that in mind, it is every HR leader’s duty and responsibility to have the dialogue front and center with its leaders and stakeholders at large. The Weinstein Effect in 2017 has brought attention on a national level to power/gender relationships and has created an opportunity to further these conversations and actions. Organizations can find increased value in collaboration, teamwork and other key leadership skills that in many cases women bring to the table- strengthening the overall value of the company.
The current drive to elevate more women into leadership is largely driven by the pressure to do the “right” thing. But that thinking is the problem, the lost business advantages of maintaining corporate cultures that stifles women’s contributions transform the core objective from gender equality to empowering talent. Many HR leaders struggle to attract, develop and retain talent. The main question is…“If you need to vastly improve employee talent quality, engagement, creativity, collaboration and productivity within your existing budget... what should you do?”…The answer is to energize and empower the talent you already have that feels marginalized and undervalued.
Winning the “war for talent” is not about recruiting geniuses. Rather, it is igniting the genius potential that is latent in your workforce but constrained by your culture. We have entered the Age of Relationships. The value that we create is increasingly do to the quality of the relationships we are nurturing. Relationships with customers, with employees, with society and people all around us. I am not suggesting that men are wrong and that women are right. I am only pointing out that women are simply not valued in the essential way they bring value. We need the synergy of both efficiency and empathy. In today’s competitive, commoditized marketplace, businesses must fuel growth by creating continuous streams of innovative value. This requires a culture that values and expertly puts to use the native strengths of both men and women. Nothing less will bring success!
Adriana Cabré is a dynamic executive with over 20 years of Human Resources experience across diverse industries, including bio-pharmaceuticals, medical device, healthcare and high-tech industries. Adriana joined the National University System in October 2016 as the first Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. As her first time working in Higher Education, Adriana is responsible for building best class people practices to propel National University and its Affiliates as an employer of choice. As the leader of the Human Resources function, she has expertise in the areas of organizational effectiveness, talent acquisition, employee relations, HR operations, HR compliance and total rewards among others.
During her professional career, Adriana acquired progressive managerial and executive experience in various roles at Amylin Pharmaceuticals, CooperVision, and Motorola, Inc. She developed a solid base of HR knowledge in the US, Latin America and international markets in areas such as leadership development, strategic sourcing, project management, joint ventures, acquisitions and divestitures.
Adriana is a recognized trusted strategic partner. She has a reputation of operationally driven with practical solutions for attracting, developing, and retaining an engaged high performing workforce. She drives people strategies to align with current and future business needs balanced with her strong values. Uncompromising integrity is a staple throughout her career, finding ways to get to win/win solutions.
Adriana serves as a board member of the California Diversity Council, Father Joe’s Village, and Fellowship of Servant Leaders. She is involved in various Human Resources organizations related to Human Resources Leadership, Talent Development and the advancement of Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace. As an Adjunct Professor at UCSD Extension, she shares her hands-on knowledge on Human Resources practices with the next generation of HR professionals.
She received a B.A. with a concentration in International Business from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a MBA from Nova Southeastern University, Wayne Huizenga Business School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Adriana lives in Solana Beach and enjoys staying active and volunteering.
